This past year, as part of the celebration of Boston Pops Maestro Keith Lockhart’s 30th, Ahrens + Flaherty were commissioned to create a new concert piece for orchestra, chorus and narrator for the Pops.

Titled FROM SEA TO SHINING SEA, the piece is about the life and words of Katherine Lee Bates, the Massachusetts poet who created the words for “America The Beautiful.” The symphonic orchestration is by William Elliott, with choral composition by Stephen.

It featured a film that accompanied the live performance by documentarian John De Graff (who co-created the text with Lynn.)

The new piece premiered at Symphony Hall in Boston on June 5-6, 2025, with an encore performance at Tanglewood on August 22, 2025.
