American River Suite

The piece celebrates the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s historic journey and is composed in five sections, two of which are sung (lyrics by William Schermerhorn.)
Written for orchestra, female soloist(s), fiddle soloist and choir, the piece premiered at New York’s Carnegie Hall in April 2009 with the New York Pops conducted by Steven Reineke, and soloists Idina Menzel and Anika Noni Rose. It was broadcast nationally on July 4, 2009, with Idina Menzel and Audra McDonald as soloists, accompanied by singers from the Choir Academy of Harlem, as part of the Macy’s Fireworks Spectacular.
